Early years Foundation stage (EYFS)- statutory framework

Every child deserves the best start in life that we can possibly give them so that they can fulfil their potential and they can really sparkle. In the first few years of a Childs life they develop very quickly, and what they learn and the experiences they have between the ages of birth to 5 years old have a huge impact on who they will become and their future life chances.
The early years foundation stage (EYFS) sets the standard that all early years providers must meet to make sure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. it helps us to teach and your children to learn what they need to, to be ready for their next step in starting school

the EYFS is sectioned into two areas
prime and specific

The prime areas are-
- Personal and social development
- Physical development
- Communication and language

The specific areas are-
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the world
-Expressive arts and design

Here at Barley Burrow we are proud to say that we are no exception to this and enjoy abiding by the EYFS and by working with parents/ carers we will give children the best start we can give them!

The way in which we teach and plan activities and topics takes place under a Term umbrella as opposed to Monthly.
This gives us more time to extend activities and Teaching and more time for children to Learn what has been taught and through play opportunities. This Termly method also follows on nicely and smoothly and better on the whole when they move to 'Big School'.
Especially when it comes to transitioning children From pre-school to reception classes (no matter what school they attend).

It will have that added bonus for those children that end up choosing St Johns Church of England primary school as we will be working closely with the school and it's reception teacher to ensure that we are easing those children transitioning and replicating part of each others teaching within our classes/ rooms (singing from the same Hymm sheet so to speak).

At the start of every Term (our terms- May not match the schools exact), you (the Parents/ Carers) will receive a beak down of what our plans are for over that term
- Goals
- Topics
-Special events
etc

We feel that it is incredibly important to keep our parents and carers, informed and hold great communication through a child's Journey. Our Parent Interactive app allows us to provide daily updates and diaries but also create report so that every Parent can know and understand how their child is developing within the EYFS (Above areas) and how support and teaching is catered to their individual Child. We do this by providing your child with a Key worker - a member of the team responsible for aiding their learning and development. The Key worker will not only provide parents with informative personal reports but also check in with the parents through the term and offer key worker telephone calls and key worker evenings which we host twice a year!
