About Us
Here at Barley Burrow we strive to help and support children to thrive, by providing Bright, stimulating, close and caring, creative and affordable Early years childcare and education from an independent privately owned Pre-school.
Barley Burrow is committed to remaining individual to other pre-school settings through our independence and to continue with our Creative approach where higher Adult to child ratios are in place to enable us to explore the world around us through memorable outings to our local area and offer what we always have- a second family for little ones.
Here it is incredibly important to us that we teach and children learn through experiences that enables choice, wonder and opportunities in a way that is fun memorable and really supports the building of confidence in our little Bunnies. We achieve this through lots of exploration of the world close around us whether it be on foot or by bus and through meeting new people that spark our curiosity and provide wonderful fun learning experiences such as Dance, Music, Martial arts, sports, fire station/ fire fighter and Police visits and more!
We are incredibly lucky to have such a wonderfully secure and stimulating environment as our base, with wonderful indoor outdoor space where we can get stuck in with creativity and fun learning.
We have two age groups that Barley Burrow bunnies are sorted into:
Little lettuces - 18 months - approx 2.5 years old
and
Carrot crew - approx 2.5 years to 4 years old
Our single Classroom acts as our indoor learning play space that is shared between both groups. Here at Barley Burrow We are Big on using the wonderful outdoor space we have and adopt the 'best of both' approach when it comes to outdoor learning and play. The groups will take it in turns to use the space provided using this approach- e.g. One group will have be based in the classroom for half the morning while the other group is exploring the outdoors and then the groups will swap, each getting equal times to explore both areas and have a healthy balance of both spaces and what those spaces offer. We adopt and continue this approach all year and in all weathers and encourage the correct outdoor equipment to support this.
We provide additional small group learning to give our bunnies the best start and preparation for their next step in starting primary school such as small group phonics through Rhyme time, Love of Books (small and large group stories) and Tuning into sounds under the provider little Wandle. Also by supporting our bunnies through a BLAST (Boosting auditory skills and talking) programme, to help our little bunnies Create and develop their communication and turn taking skills.
Easing our Parents worries and keeping them well informed and involved in our day is a big priority of the Barley Burrow team and enables that much needed healthy and beneficial setting/ Team to home life/ parent unity. To ensure this we provide a parent and setting interactive app that provides daily diaries, chat column for parents and team members which enables wonderful communications, photo updates and more! We hold a modern twist, using the much loved social media as one of our ways to provide parents/ carers with pictures and videos Daily of their little one being creative, exploring, learning and most importantly having lots and lots of fun!

Independent preschool Owner - Lucy Shuttlewood
"I am a wife and mother of two Young children and have been working within the early years sector now for 15 years. After working within and being employed at a nursery/ day care setting for 8 years, I decided it was time to create a setting that would hold and provide the exact care and learning that I feel is essential in those important years prior to Primary school.
The kind of Learning and setting that i would like for my own children.. calling upon 'Family' wants and needs as well as the child's- Homely, family like and good communication but stimulating, creative and fun!
Here at Barley Burrow we want to be considered your Child's second family, a place where they can truly find themselves and develop on their own little personalities and skills to become confident and kind little Humans.
We aim to encourage learning through exploring the world through little eyes and feeding our Little Bunnies curiosities.
"Creating confident and kind little humans is our goal!"
Barley Burrow has now been open and running, providing this form of childcare since
we opened our doors on the 1st October 2018 as a home setting, with great success.
We have received such wonderful feedback and reviews from our Lovely families in this
time and made great bonds and Burrow choices including a change of location.
Barley Burrow received its name from the original home based setting based in Barley Close. The close That used to be a barley field (Barley), where children would play and rabbits used to live (burrow).
Come and joing our Burrow Family!"
